This guy started out as a quick sculpt sketch a couple of months back. I spent about 4 hours sculpting him, then added some extras in Maya, and finally textured it back in Mudbox (All up, about 15 hours). I'm struggling to remember what my original motivation was to have him just drifting in 'space', but I do remember liking the idea of a really slow, subtle animation where the camera would just hover around him... I think a really heavy Depth of Field works nicely for such a scene... Enjoy!
